A LANDMARK CELEBRATION
FOR A
LEGENDARY
LEADER
As we mark the 100th birthday of Kansas' own Senator Bob Dole and the 20th anniversary of the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics, we invited Kansans to contribute to our tribute earthwork by creating paper tiles unique to them to border this earthwork by Stan Herd.
Visit the Dole Institute starting July 22, 2023 to see your tile on display. You can locate your tile by clicking the button below.
Find your community partner.
Your community partner is the organization that hosted a session where you created your tile. This could be your school, your local library, a museum you visited, or another type of organization you may be affiliated with. Click on the location to see where your tile is located.

LOWER CURVE
Why are there no sections here?
Tiles will be dispersed throughout the lower curve of the earthwork in a manner that makes it easier to identify your tile than if they were placed along the border. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about identifying your tile.
Need help finding your tile?
Consult this guide to help you navigate our website. If you still need assistance or would like to report a website issue, please contact us at (785) 864-4900 or doleinstitute@ku.edu.
How are tiles arranged?
Tiles are arranged by the community partner that submitted your tile, which may span multiple quadrants and/or sections.
Tiles are also placed in a specific quadrant of the earthwork, and quadrants are further broken down into sections.
Finally, some tiles are placed at the lower curve of the earthwork.
How many tiles are in an area?
In total, there are over 1000 tiles placed on the border and lower curve of our earthwork.
In a given quadrant, there can be about 200 tiles, with as little as two or three community partners in a quadrant or more.
In a section, you can expect to find about 50 tiles.
Who is my community partner?
A community partner is the organization that hosted an event where you colored your paper square.
For example, if you completed your tile at your local library, your library's name is our community partner.
Click here to see a list of all community partners we've received tiles from.
Where is the earthwork?
The Senator Bob Dole Tribute Earthwork is on display at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas.
The earthwork will be maintained until October 2023.

The Dole Institute is committed to universal accessibility in all programs and resources. We are in the process of making our web projects fully accessible. An accessible version of the material represented on this site will be made available upon request. Please contact us at doleinstitute@ku.edu to request the material be made available in an accessible format, or for general assistance.
